THREE GUN CLUB WINNERS,
BUT NO TRI-SHRINE TROPHY!
You know the old saying, "We fought
the good fight, won some battles but
lost the war," Well Nobles, our team
at the 2018 Tri-Shrine in Reading
against Rajah and Boumi did just that.
In the process, won several "wars."
We are proud to say that Mike Hoover
won the Singles event; Marty Hoover
won the Handicap event, and Bob
Moisey won the Handicap "runner-up”
trophy. Hey, that is not too shabby.
Rajah won the Doubles event and the
runner-up in Doubles. They also won
the Tri-Shrine trophy (again), and
the High Overall and the runner-up.
Maybe "home field" advantage was
in play. Noble Ray Petronio did win a
Lewis Class prize.
Everyone had a great time, enjoyed
the fellowship, the banquet and the
friendly competition. The fact is that
the entire event was not as well
attended as it usually is. The Syria
Gun Club squad had many of our
top guns, but a considerable number
of our guns were absent. We need to
remember this next year and come out
with all guns blazing! Please make a
note. We have been without the Tri-
Shrine Trophy too long.

Our October shoot at Fayette was a beautiful
day for shooting and provided us with the
opportunity to elect officers for 2019. We are
pleased to report that Mike Tetteris was elected
President for the coming year, hard-working
Jim Johnston (President, 1998) was elected Vice
President and offered to share duties with
re-elected Secretary, Andy Young (President
2001). Einar Erickson (President 1994 and 2016)
was elected Treasurer. We do not have a nominee
for 2nd. Vice President for the second year in a
row.

In the interest in trying new approaches to get
a better turnout at our monthly shoots, recently
our membership (in attendance) proposed and
approved having a single location for our
monthly shoots at a club believed to be more
accessible for many members. We will also have
the shoots scheduled on the fourth Saturday
of the month. Pretty easy to remember. The club
selected for our monthly shoots will be the
Clairton Sportsman’s Club. It was this way many
years ago and so it will be again.
While this may not please everyone (not easy
to do), we hope this will be a positive option. As
most of you know, the Clairton Club is an
excellent club with facilities to handle any shoot
we plan. We hope to see attendance grow in
2019. Come support your club and enjoy the
sport.
Our past November shoot was held at the
Ruffs Dale Sportsman’s club and was one of our
favorite events, a Blueberry Pancake breakfast
and shoot. Chef Einar Erickson was host
and did a great job with some very able
assistance of his “kitchen krew.” It was
a doubly pleasant event since it was also
our annual Potentate’s Shoot and party
honoring Ill. Sir Bill Branthoover, Lady
Linda and the Divan. We had a great day
with Ill. Sir Bill and Lady Linda and
enjoyed some fun and serious shooting
at our final shooting event for the year.

Now that we are into December, we
look forward to our annual Christmas
Party at the Red Lion in Elizabeth on
Saturday, December 15. We hope to
have a really good turnout with perhaps
some of our members who have not
experienced the Red Lion. The fire-
place is sure to be warming the room.

can accommodate all who attend. For
