The Syria Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band represent Pittsburgh’s Syria Shrine and The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.

Regular meetings and practice sessions are the first Wednesday of the month except for December. Extra practices are often held the third Wednesday of the month.

Each fall (October or November) we hold the Highland Ball which is a Highland formal, ’Burns Like’ dinner complete with the addressing of the Haggis and a massed band performance.

In order to perform with us a piper must prove proficiency to the Pipe Major. This requires playing a selection of 10 of our tunes. Drummers must prove proficiency to the Drum Major. The Highlanders will provide free instructions to any member working toward proficiency.

Requirements to perform is that the member provide their own instrument. Uniforms, except shoes and glengarry (hat), are provided by the Shrine.
